ReligionOne fun thing about the spiritual journey - it is never finished. And, there is a staggering mass of material available to guide you on your journey. A staggering mass of material. Out of this seemingly neverending avalanche of books by and for the Contemporary Pagan and the Contemporary Mystic and the Contemporary Contemplative, here is a list of those tomes that I have personally found inspiring, informative, interesting, or any combination thereof.* Not all books listed here are about Paganism - some are about other religions, general spirituality, theology, etc., and certainly not all reflect my current spiritual practice - what they do reflect is the Magpie way I have gone and will continue to go about my spiritual evolutionary journey - picking up, putting down, digesting, relishing, and regurgitating (lovely image). Grok Earth. Pray without ceasing. (Clicking on most of these titles will take you a
page that will prompt you for your zip code, after which you will be
immediately taken to the product page for that book on the web site of
your nearest BookSense-affilitated independent bookstore! Some of these
books may be difficult to order - if you cannot order them through a
Booksense bookstore, check your local used book stores , Pagan
bookshops, or other online book dealers. In the lamentable instance
that a book is out-of-print (OP), I have directed you to http://www.abe.com, a used book dealer online, and a few books have links to other sources.) For every book not here, someone will wonder why I am neglecting some vitally important work. Well, there are a lot of reasons - the main one being: I am only one small Gospely Pagan person, and cannot have possibly read all the books in the Pagan world (nor do I really care to - particularly the ones with pink velvety covers and such). And, yes, I do have preferences and biases like anyone else. While, as always, I welcome comments and "whatabouts," I do not choose to be embroiled in a grand epic battle over Historical Accuracy vs. Personal Gnosis, the reputation of any particular author, what qualifies me to be an Authority (not hard: the same thing that makes you an Authority on what you like), or my Tragic Disdain for the Pink Velvety Covered Book, etc. Also, I always heartily recommend that everyone take everything they read with that proverbial little grain of salt (also known as a Critical Hermeneutic of Suspicion), which brings out the flavor of every dish and can prevent nasty things like Blind Faith from happening. Thank you. This Caveat Dance has been brought to you by the letter Q. |
